I'm a competent user, and I know my hardware's up to the task, but I'm new to the upper-end video world, so have limited technical knowledge about codecs - suggestions and insights in non-technical terms appreciated! Checking the comments from the source site didn't reveal any notes about file problems (in the 300+ comments on each). I would think that it's a single file error, but exactly the same thing happened with three "Lord of the Rings Extended Edition" Blue Ray MKV files, as well as "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" and the six "Star Wars" films as well.

It also happens on both the Macbook Pro and the Mac Mini. The same thing happens with Handbrake (Version 0.9.6 x86_64 (2012022800)) and Mac Video Converter Pro (Version 3.5.0). When I open the file in iFlicks to convert it to M4V, the conversion stops at the same point and the process shuts down as if it had finished the file. When I open the file in VLC (Version 2.0.1 Twoflower (Intel 64bit)), it starts up normally, and then stops at 1m:06s.

'Star Trek 2009 BluRay ac3 x264-LoNeWoLf.mkv') in order to convert it to M4V to store in my iTunes Movie directory (on a DROBO connected to the Mac Mini). Have recently (after getting an iPad 3 and AppleTV 3) been playing with MKV files from Blue Ray rips.
